Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question we don't answer below? Contact us!

How can I buy a plan from an architect in my country?

All you need is to message or call the architect and tell the number of the plan you want to buy. If you want to buy a plan with some changes, they are normally paid extra. Prepare all the edits you want to make to the plan in advance so that the architect can announce the final price with all your changes included.

How to buy a plan from an architect residing in other country?

If you like the plan of an architect from other country, do not rush to buy its full version because it may not adhere to your local building codes (except for the countries whose building technologies completely match). You just need to buy a CAD file and then choose an architect from your country who can develop documents using that CAD file that would adhere to your local building codes right in the recommendations on the page of the chosen plan. To avoid any scam, we recommend that you purchase the CAD file yourself and give it to any architect in your country.

How can I change the plan?

Most architects are ready to modify the house plan to suit your functional needs. If you have chosen a plan from an architect in your country, just send them all the desired modifications to the house. If you want to change a plan from a foreign architect, you have two options:

  • You modify the plan with its architect, and then buy a modified CAD Concept file to give it to your local architect.
  • Buy the CAD Concept file from the plan architect, forward it to your local architect, and ask them to modify the plan.

How to pay?

All relationships between the plan architect and the client are exclusively direct ones. PlansPlace neither accepts payments nor acts as an intermediary. The payment is made directly to the plan architect in a way you prefer.

What is included in the plan?

Click on the «What is Included?» link on the plan page, and you will see what the plan set includes. Send a request to the plan architect if you think something is missing or want to order something extra.

How is the delivery arranged?

Only the house plan architect arranges its delivery. You can discuss the convenient method of the plan delivery with them.

How many houses can I build using one plan?

Most plans come with a single license to build. If the architect sells the full plan in a CAD file, it may come with either a single license or multiple licenses. The architect may not sell CAD versions, but their plans may come with multiple licenses. Learn this information directly from the plan architect before buying.

Will these house plans comply with my local building codes?

The national building codes differ across the countries. Even within one country, cities and municipalities may have their own codes, zoning requirements and building regulations (therefore, never buy a full house plan from an architect from another country). If you are buying a plan from the architect in your country, make sure that the house plan adheres to all applicable building codes and is suitable for a particular site before the actual construction begins. If the plan does not comply with, you can find an architect or a designer working in your area on PlansPlace, and he will make changes to the house comply with local conditions and requirements. If you buy a CAD Concept file from an architect from another country, we recommend to prepare the construction drawings with an architect in your area. In this way, you will get a plan that comply with your local building codes and standards.

Do I get the copyright to the plan after purchasing it?

No, you don’t! All copyrights are reserved by the house plan architect. You are not allowed to resell the plan or modifications based on it. The exception is the cases when the architect voluntarily and explicitly transfers the copyrights for house plan to you.
